Blue & Gold Community Service Requirements

As a condition of accepting the UCLA Chancellor’s Blue and Gold Scholarship, students commit to performing 20 hours in outreach participation activities. Students agree to perform such activities by signing and returning the Scholarship Acceptance Form. Specifically, outreach activities can be at their high school, and/or other high schools in Los Angeles County benefiting from the Blue and Gold Scholarship Program.

Your service must directly serve K-12 or Community College students in an academic or college bound capacity. You must not be compensated for your services with money or course credit. Examples of unacceptable services include office work, making or answering phone calls, coaching, running errands, and baby-sitting. Service must be done with a school or organization. Private tutoring must be cleared prior to the service in order to satisfy the requirement (there will be some additional work involved). Please clear any questions about this requirement before you begin your service with Mary Horne at mhorne@saonet.ucla.edu.

Students are given information regarding various campus programs and departments under which students can fulfill their community service requirement.
* Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools
* Early Academic Outreach Program
* Student Recruiters/Volunteer Programs
* Bruin Corps and Academic Advancement Program (AAP)
Each program will offer training as part of volunteering. Please contact individual programs directly.

Once a scholar has completed all community service hours for the academic year, he/she will submit a Community Service Form. Students are required to give a brief description of the type of work performed and total hours completed. The form must be signed and returned to Mary Horne at A215 Murphy Hall. All service hours must be completed by the end of the academic year. The form will be tracked and the student will then be eligible to receive the next academic year renewable award if all community service requirements are met.
